Highland, Illinois

Highland enjoys a rich history, dating back to 1831.  Dr. Caspar Koepfli led a group of pioneers from Sursee, Switzerland to this area, which was originally called New Switzerland.  The town was platted in 1836, and officially became Highland.

Highland began to grown rapidly by servicing the surrounding agricultural community.  Though rural traditions are still evident, Highland has grown from a small agricultural community to a successful industrial and commercial center. Most of the larger industries in Highland are the descendants of cottage industries, which individuals started in their garages or spare rooms. Recent additions to the industrial base in Highland came when visitors recognized the potential of local work ethic, convenience to major transportation networks and quality of life in the community. Today the population of Highland exceeds 8000.

The town saw an on-line demo of VectorEyes and made their decision to web-enable their GIS using VectorEyes.
